Medicare Advantage Plans in Connecticut

Medicare Advantage plans bundle your Medicare coverage into one private plan, often with drug coverage included. We help Connecticut residents compare networks, drug lists and total costs.

How Medicare Advantage works

A Medicare Advantage plan, also called Part C, is offered by a private insurance company approved by Medicare. It replaces Original Medicare as the way you get your Part A and Part B benefits. You still pay your Part B premium, and the plan may charge its own premium as well.

Most Medicare Advantage plans include Part D prescription drug coverage. Many also offer some dental, vision or hearing benefits, which Original Medicare does not cover. What each plan includes varies, so it pays to compare.

Networks and plan types

Most plans in Connecticut are HMOs or PPOs. An HMO generally requires you to use doctors and hospitals in its network and may require referrals to see a specialist. A PPO lets you go out of network, usually at a higher cost. Many plans also require prior authorization for certain services.

Before choosing a plan, confirm that your primary care doctor, your specialists and the hospital you would want to use are all in its network for the coming year. Networks can change every year.

Out-of-pocket limit

Unlike Original Medicare, every Medicare Advantage plan has a yearly limit on what you pay for covered medical services. For 2026, that limit can be no higher than $9,250 for in-network care, and many plans set it lower. Once you reach it, the plan pays 100% of covered services for the rest of the year.

When you can enroll or switch

You can join a plan during your Initial Enrollment Period around your 65th birthday. After that, the Annual Enrollment Period runs from October 15 to December 7, with coverage starting January 1. If you are already in a Medicare Advantage plan, you can make one change from January 1 to March 31. Certain events, such as moving out of your plan’s service area, open a Special Enrollment Period.

Connecticut residents have one more option. Because Medicare Supplement policies here are guaranteed issue all year, you can leave Medicare Advantage for Original Medicare with a Medicare Supplement plan without health questions.

Plans for people with Medicare and Medicaid

If you qualify for both Medicare and Medicaid, a Dual Eligible Special Needs Plan, or D-SNP, may give you extra benefits at little or no cost. We can check whether you qualify.

How we help
