Medicare Questions We Hear Often
When should I sign up for Medicare?
Your Initial Enrollment Period lasts seven months. It starts three months before the month you turn 65 and ends three months after it. If you or your spouse have health coverage through a current employer with 20 or more employees, you can usually delay Part B and sign up later without a penalty.
What is the difference between a Medicare Supplement and a Medicare Advantage plan?
A Medicare Supplement (Medigap) policy works alongside Original Medicare and pays some or all of your deductibles and coinsurance, and you can see any provider that accepts Medicare. A Medicare Advantage plan replaces Original Medicare with a private plan that usually has a provider network, copays and a yearly out-of-pocket limit, and often includes drug coverage.
Can I change my Medicare plan after I enroll?
Yes. The Annual Enrollment Period runs from October 15 to December 7, and Medicare Advantage members can make one change from January 1 to March 31. In Connecticut, Medicare Supplement policies are guaranteed issue all year, so you can apply for one at any time without health questions.
